- What is a thermo fan, and why do I need one?
Since the early 1990s, thermo fans have been classified as original equipment. Meanwhile, modern cars are usually fitted with electric fans.
Thermo fans are controlled by a thermostat, and utilise a clutch to engage or disengage the fan at a specified engine speed or temperature.
High performance thermo fans are a great option for greater flexibility and control over your vehicle’s cooling system.
- What size radiator cooling fan does my vehicle need?
Your Natrad specialist can help you to select the right radiator cooling fan for your vehicle. If your specific model fan isn’t available, the technician will measure your radiator core to match it to the correct fan size.
- Can I convert from a mechanical fan or fan clutch to an electric switch fan?
Mechanical belt-driven fans or fan clutches rely on the mechanical drive from the engine to operate. These fans run continuously, using more engine power to cool the radiator. The clutch engages or disengages to change the fan speed, but also limits the maximum fan speed.
An electric fan operates independently, controlled by a switch at the engine thermostat. These fans are usually lighter, and they release energy drained by mechanical fans or fan clutch systems, giving a clear performance benefit and more effective cooling.
- What does the fan include?
Fans include a motor, fan blade, shroud, mounting feet and an instruction sheet.
- Can you fit a replacement or upgrade fan to my vehicle?
A Natrad technician can supply and fit a replacement radiator fan, or replace the motor of your existing radiator fan. If you are having issues with vehicle cooling, your local Natrad can perform a free cooling system inspection, and diagnose the cause of the problem.
- What's better, one large fan or two smaller fans?
One large fan will provide better airflow than two smaller fans. However, a rectangular radiator may need to be fitted with two smaller fans. If this is the case, choose the largest fans that can be fitted.
