Why is the compressor important?
The compressor is the only moving part in your vehicle air conditioning system. It's powered by a drive belt that's connected to the crankshaft of the engine.
The compressor pumps refrigerant vapour under high pressure into the condenser. The gas becomes a liquid under the pressure. This releases heat, starting the refrigeration cycle.
The refrigerant liquid moves to the evaporator. Here the liquid absorbs heat from the air inside the cabin, becoming a gas.
The refrigerant gas returns to the compressor, completing the cycle.
