What Is a Radiator Flush?

Also known as a coolant flush, a radiator flush is a chemical treatment for your vehicle’s cooling system. This treatment helps clean and remove scale and any built up debris that may be sitting in the cooling system prior to replacing the radiator.

A radiator flush cleanout should always be carried out before any major cooling components are replaced. It can also be performed as a way of restoring cooling performance to your vehicle’s blocked radiator. Once your radiator is unblocked, your vehicle’s cooling system should be running with optimum cooling efficiency.

Why Do I Need a Radiator Flush?

A radiator flush will clean out any of this debris, scale, rust or other contaminant that has built up over time. Built up contaminant over time can cause overheating issues due to blockages.  Overheating can also lead to more serious problems in the future.

Another reason is that if you have a leaky cooling system. This may be caused by topping up your system with water and saturating your coolant. Mixing your coolant with water can lead to rust in your cooling system, and an indication of this may be that an orange or brown colour can be found on the radiator cap, or in the overflow bottles.
